Fernley Leader -- As part of its statewide tour Nevada for Health Care made a stop in Fernley and attended the Fernley Democratic Club meeting held last Thursday at the Truck Inn.

About 35 people attended the meeting, where NHC discussed health care reform and the need for citizens to discuss health care quality, affordability and availability at the upcoming caucus said NHC Campaign Director Samatha Galing Gaddy.

Arnold Schwarzenegger took his political sales pitch on the road Tuesday, telling a Concord audience that the time has come to make the changes California needs, including an overhaul of the state's health care system. "There are a lot of things that have been swept under the rug for the last 10 to 15 years ... I want to tackle the big problems,'' he told a town hall meeting of 150 people at the Concord Senior Center. As he spoke, Democratic legislative leaders in Sacramento released new details on their plan for changes in health care. Their proposal would ask employers to pay 7.5 percent of payroll for coverage or contribute to a state pool that would purchase care. The plans would also ask workers to pay up to 4.5 percent of income or no more than $308 per month for a family of four on annual income of up to $103,000.

Germany , Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada all provide better care for less money, the Commonwealth Fund report found. “The U.S. health care system ranks last compared with five other nations on measures of quality, access, efficiency, equity, and outcomes,” the non-profit group, which studies health care issues, said in a statement.
